British Values
Teaching and Promoting British Values at Mill Hill Primary School
At Mill Hill Primary School, we are committed to promoting the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs, as outlined in the Department for Education’s 2011 Prevent Strategy. These values are embedded across our curriculum, both explicitly and through the ‘hidden curriculum’, and are central to the ethos of our school community.
We take a developmental approach, ensuring that pupils progressively deepen their understanding of these values throughout their time with us. Through daily interactions, assemblies, classroom discussions, and wider enrichment activities, children learn what it means to be respectful, informed, and active citizens in modern Britain.
British Values are defined as
- democracy
- rule of law
- individual liberty
- mutual respect
- tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
We actively promote British Values through our assemblies, whole school systems and structures, such as electing and running a School Council. We also promote the British values through ensuring that our curriculum planning and delivery includes opportunities for exploring these values.
